The Bitter Southerner
From Logistics to Design
The Bitter Southerner is an award-winning Southern storytelling publication and multi-James Beard Award winner dedicated to documenting the people, places, and culture of the American South through long-form journalism, photography, and design.
What started off as a hustle by being an eCommerce dropshipper, I quickley graduated to being a designer and copywriter for the brand. As a graphic designer, I contributed to the visual systems that supported both editorial storytelling and digital marketing initiatives. My work included editorial layouts, newsletter design, website graphics, social media campaigns, and promotional assets that helped bring stories to audiences across multiple platforms.
Working closely with writers, photographers, illustrators, and fellow designers, I helped translate complex narratives into engaging visual experiences while maintaining the publication's distinctive voice and identity. From feature stories and cultural essays to product launches and marketing campaigns, every project required balancing strong visual communication with thoughtful storytelling.
Selected contributions include editorial design, email marketing campaigns, website banners, social media content, and digital assets developed in collaboration with The Bitter Southerner's creative and editorial teams.
All projects and graphics were created and edited with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
